Unified bocce game moved to March 20
Hampton school district’s Unified Bocce team, made up of 10 students of all abilities, is rescheduling its sole home game to March 20 at 3 p.m. at the Hampton High School gym. The game was originally scheduled for Feb.7 against Norwin High School, but had to be cancelled due to the school’s snow day.
Currently, the team is comprised of 10 players, from grades nine through 12, half of which are general education students and half are special education students, according to Sarah Rassau, the team’s coach and a Hampton teacher.
Unified bocce is treated like any other interscholastic sport in a school district, with teams playing against other teams from other schools. Unified bocce requires players to roll four balls with the goal of getting closest to an object ball, also known as a palina.
Last year’s home game drew a large crowd, said Rassau.
High School Principal Dr. Marguerite Imbarlina said she wants to see a big crowd again.
The Elfinwild Lions Club is holding an Oldies Dance on March 21, 7:30-11:30 p.m. at St. Ursula’s Church Hall on Duncan Avenue. Hot sausage, hot dogs, macaroni salad, snacks and brownies will be served. Beer and pop are also included. The cost is $20 per person, $35 per couple.
