Meet the Hampton Candidates forum slated for high school auditorium

On Oct. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m., a Meet the Hampton Candidates forum will be held at the Hampton high school auditorium.

This free event, which is open to the public, is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh and HAPPEN (Hampton Parent and Professional Education Network).

The League is a national nonpartisan group that encourages informed and active participation of citizens in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues. The League of Women Voters Education Fund works to register voters, provide voters with election information through voter guides as well as candidate forums and debates.

HAPPEN is a nonpartisan parent support group for parents of children with special needs who network with fellow parents and professionals to determine best practices in education for their sons and daughters.

The questions for the candidates will come from the citizen attendees. The League will give the attendees index cards to write down their questions in advance and submit them. A member of the League of Women Voters will be the moderator.

This is the first time since 2007 that there are more candidates running for office than open positions.
