Expectations run high for Onward, a tale of two brothers searching for their father in an animated fantasy, opening Friday at The Tull Family Theater, 418 Walnut St., Sewickley. In addition to daily screenings, the film will be offered as a sensory friendly screening on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m.

Onward follows elf Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland) after he is given a magical artifact that will allow him to spend one day with the late father he never got to meet. When the spell goes wrong, he and his older brother Barley (Chris Pratt) set off on a fantasy quest.

“In every way, it’s pure, perfect Pixar—a film with such warmth, whip-smart humour and creative energy that it’s a sheer joy to spend a few hours in its presence,” says Empire. “…Some of Pixar’s most elegant storytelling of recent years—a satisfying hum of adventure plotting, emotional arcs and comedy that all remain perfectly in sync.”

“It’s also one of Pixar’s outright funniest films,” Empire continues.

“Sweet-spirited and pristine,” says Variety, “… with a visual prankishness that’s friendly and winsome and at moments breathtaking.”

SENSORY FRIENDLY SCREENING: A sensory friendly screening, adapted for those with autism and other special needs, featuring lower volume and dim lights on throughout the screening, as well as other adaptations, will be shown on Saturday, March 14, at 10 a.m. Specifics on what happens at a sensory friendly screening is available on the theater website. These inclusive screenings are made possible thanks to the Marshall Foundation and theater donors.
